I felt nauseated when reading Works Minister Samy Vellu's comment on the Karak highway landslide which occurred on Aug 29. The comment read: "Yesterday's incident was totally unexpected. We did not expect any danger at this stretch. I believe road users too have to play their part and be careful in using the roads, especially with the heavy rains nowadays."

According to Samy, a highway user now not only have to pay to use the highway (so that the concessionaire holder can laugh all the way to the bank), but after paying the ever increasing toll, will also have to, even at the safest stretches, watch out left and right to ensure that the slopes are still intact.

Is this a joke or what? Come on Samy! We are not even in the monsoon season! Are we then could expect the worse come the end of the year?

I think, it's about time for we, the road users, find ourselves a new Menteri Kerja Raya who does not issue irresponsible comments like the present one. What do the other readers say?
