It is obvious to readers of Umno's New Straits Times and MCA's Star that their editorial policies have tightened politically to condition the minds of the people to support the corrupt Barisan Nasional government.

Day in day out, we only read about Mahathir, Abdullah or Ong Ka Ting saying this or that. For one, the quality of their speeches are usually not that great to be printed in such newspapers. Any social science graduate from a Western university can write that kind of speeches. The letters-to-editor pages are also not critical enough to generate public debates, such as the ones in malaysiakini.

The NST is even worse. It wastes pages after pages everyday 'reporting' the unproductive activities of the elites that are of no concern to the ordinary people. Opposition leaders are always completely blacked out, except of course, negative news.

I have stopped subscribing and reading NST because it is a waste of time. But even as I still read the Star, I only flip through its entertainment and share-market pages. Knowing that Star is a MCA newspaper, I now only read malaysiakini for political news and analyses.

Of course, I do not read any international news or commentaries in any local newspapers anymore. With Astro at home, I know more about what happen outside Malaysia through BBC and CNN. While they are not perfect, they are nevertheless stimulating and factually truthful. There are also plenty of free articles in the websites of the Economist, Time, Newsweek, Washington Post, Guardian, etc. They also offered a complete range of opinions on all issues.

I write this letter because I want the top editors and owners of NST and Star to know that their attempts to close the mind of Malaysians is futile and doomed to failure. So stop fooling Malaysians and stop being fools yourselves.
