Gov't may engage Thai aircraft for cloud seeding

The government may engage Thai aircraft to conduct cloud seeding continuously, said Deputy Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Mahdzir Khalid.
'We don’t know the cost yet as this is still under discussion,' says Mahdzir.
The government may engage Thai aircraft to conduct cloud seeding continuously, said Deputy Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Mahdzir Khalid.
He said currently, the government had to rely on Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) aircraft, but the number was not enough to conduct cloud seeding continuously.
“We had to use RMAF aircraft as we do not have special planes for cloud seeding. We are not thinking of buying aircraft to conduct cloud seeding yet. We don’t know the cost yet as this is still under discussion.
“According to the weather forecast, the rain will persist until May with no rain in mid-June. We shall study a suitable mechanism to avoid water crisis,” he told reporters in Kuala Nerang today.
He said the National Water Services Commission (Span) did not allow water rationing to be carried out in the Shah Alam Industrial Area and the government would ensure that water supply there would not be disrupted.
Mahdzir, who is also National Water Crisis Committee chairperson, said he did not think the Selangor government would lift water rationing in the state as the Sungai Selangor Dam was at the critical level at 38 percent.
Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said today water rationing would continue as the water capacity at the Sungai Selangor Dam could last for only 29 days.
