The government will not set up a special commission of inquiry to investigate allegations of misconduct and abuse of power by Federal Court judge Mohtar Abdullah when he was Attorney-General (AG), a deputy minister in the Prime Minister's Department told Parliament today.

In a written statement received by MPs, Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said, "As a police report has been lodged by Barisan Alternatif youth leaders on Feb 17, I believe the matter is now under police investigation."

He was replying to a question by DAP member of parliament for Kota Melaka Kerk Kim Hock.

On Feb 17, BA youth leaders led a delegation to Dang Wangi police station in Kuala Lumpur to lodge the report. They were accompanied by about 400 reformasi supporters and BA leaders.

Keadilan youth leader Lokman Adam, recently arrested under the Internal Security Act (ISA), had told the crowd that Mohtar should be investigated for failing to take action when he was the AG on allegations of judicial misconduct on the part of former chief justice Eusoff Chin for holidaying overseas with a prominent local lawyer.

He also said that Mohtar should be investigated for not taking action against International Trade and Industries Minister Rafidah Aziz after the Anti-Corruption Agency recommended charging her with graft following a probe.
