The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department today confirmed that there has been no radioactive leakage in a factory producing medical gloves in Rawang as news spread on social media.

Deputy director of the Selangor Fire Department Operations Mohd Sani Harul said the rumours were spread following a small fire at about 5.30am today, involving several boxes of gloves at a factory located in the industrial area.

“False information has been spread about this incident on social media such as WhatsApp which may cause the local residents to be concerned about their safety.

Speaking to Bernama in Kuala Lumpur today, Mohd Sani said he hoped these rumours would stop.

He said the fire department received a call from the public about the incident at 5.59am.

He said the Hazardous Substances Unit (Hazmat) and the Atomic Energy Licensing Board (AELB) confirmed that no radioactive leakage had been detected at the factory and its surrounding areas.

Eight members of the Rawang Fire and Rescue Department Station arrived at the location at 6.07am but there were no reported victims in the incident.
