Prime Minister Najib Razak today gave his assurance that the government would continue to defend the constitution and fight for social justice for all.

In a multi-racial society like Malaysia, extreme action, words or writings are totally unacceptable as they can result in social instability, he said in his message in conjunction with the 2014 Songkran Day, which will be celebrated by the Siamese community tomorrow.

"On the other hand, with a moderate approach, we can understand one another and maintain a life of unity.”

According to Bernama, he drew attention that the Malaysian constitution guaranteed the rights and independence of all communities.

"This includes religious freedom, cultural diversity and celebrating the day of greatness of religions and their people," he said.

Najib stressed that the concept of moderation must be embraced in efforts to build a nation which was united and harmonious, namely, by using the approach of moderation in tackling any issue.

"I understand the coming of the New Year for the Siamese community is often feted moderately but is still impactful and cheerful," he commented on the celebration.

This, said Najib, showed that the Siamese community stressed moderation in their lives.

Ending the message with a Happy Songran Day greeting, Najib hoped the coming of the New Year this time would open a new hope for the Siamese community in Malaysia and pave the path to success, harmony and well-being in life.
