Low-cost airline AirAsia will be shifting its operations to the new terminal, KL International Airport 2 (KLIA2), AirAsia executive chairperson Kamarudin Meranun said.

“I can confirm that we will move when everything is okay. Let’s not deliberate on that,” Kamarudin told reporters when met on the sidelines of Talent Corporation’s Diversity and Inclusion session in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

On April 1, Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Abdul Aziz Kaprawi announced that the Low-Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) in Sepang would be closed on May 9.

Responding to the announcement on the same day, AirAsia said all its operations will still be based at the current LCCT even after May 9.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has told AirAsia to move to KLIA2 as scheduled, although the government, through Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd, was prepared to listen and discuss with them if there were any problems over the transfer.

AirAsia is expected contribute about 80 percent to the new low-cost airport’s traffic.
