'M'sia needs new gov't, not new radar system'

NewMalaysia: That's just precisely what the whole world thought of Malaysia now - instead of admitting the mistake and take responsibility, they blame the radar system.

Why can't the authority come clean on every detail on what happened from the very moment MH370 lost contact and went missing and every action taken by DCA (Department of Civil Aviation), MAS (Malaysia Airlines) and RMAF (Royal Malaysian Air Force), and what took them so long before sending out the search and rescue team?

What have they done during those couple of hours? Don't try to fool people with stupid excuses such as have to wait until daylight to start search operation.

Justice Pao: On Feb 21, 2013, RMAF and ThalesRaytheonSystems (TRS) finalised full system acceptance for the Malaysian Air Defence Ground Environment Sector Operations Center III (Madge) programme.

This was contracted out in April 2008. The system was certified by RMAF just last year and now they want a new radar system.

Is the old radar system not working after one year - just like the non-sinking submarine? Or was it that the radar person was sleeping on the job?

PAS Parit Buntar MP Mujahid Yusof Rawa is correct in saying that we do not need a new radar system but a new government.

All angles should be looked at if we want to get to the truth. Why should Zaharie be 'off limits'?

Terrorism or hijacking is one the first things which comes to mind when a plane is diverted, crashes or disappears. In fact an investigation into his possible terrorist links will absolve him earlier than would be the case if there was no investigation.

Mujahid, rather than being a 'peacemaker', has now mentioned un-named 'enemies' who supposedly want to besmirch Captain Zaharie. This is 'fitnah' on his part and an example of Muslim paranoia.

Headhunter: If I were to fly and given a choice, I would rather have a pilot who has a simulator at home and has practiced landings and takeoffs hundreds or perhaps thousand of times on it.

He would become a much more competent pilot. And I'm sure that Captain Zaharie was doing exactly that with his simulator.

I only wish our taxi drivers have car driving simulator at home so they can practice safe driving too.

Progressive: To me, Captain Zaharie was a hero. He made a turn back to save everyone in the wake of a disaster when all systems on the plane were knocked out. He and his co-pilot became incapacitated, and the plane flew on auto pilot and crashed.

He was not a terrorist but a hero. Indeed, many international pilots have come to this same conclusion.

Fair Play: Of what use is the most sophisticated hardware when the real flaw is the software - the relevant authorities and personnel who have the capability and ability to use them.

Money can buy the latest state-of-the-art hardware, but the software will take generations to change their mindset.

The way Umno runs this country, it will make this nation the sickman of Asean and a laughing stock in the world.

Just tell us where on earth is the Arabic word for god, ‘Allah’, is made exclusive to Muslims. This is just plain bullying of minorities in Malaysia.

It is the way this nation being managed that is the issue, not the equipment or system used. Because of rampant corruption, we only get inferior military hardware instead of the best despite of the high price we pay.

Heavenly King: Ministers and top civil servants depend on procurement, projects and contracts to enrich themselves.

In the process, they squander billions in buying substandard equipment like submarines that cannot submerge, jet fighters that cannot fly and don't have spare parts, radars that do not detect flying objects, and satellites that only beam Astro movies.

Cocomomo: Billions have already been spent by the Defence Ministry. The quality and attitude of the people involved is more important.

There is no use having the best equipment if the manning is incompetent or the attitude is not up to par. New equipment without improving the human factor will not help.

From what we know so far, the RMAF has failed in its duties and responsibility. Isn't anyone going to take responsibility? In other countries like Japan or others, the minister and/or Air Force chief would have resigned.

Hopefully, this will be investigated and appropriate action is taken to prevent recurrence. However, whether the search for MH370 would have been any different, we do not know and maybe will never know.
