I would like to comment that if insulting words and racial slurs are to be included in a dictionary like the Kamus Dewan in order to explain terminologies, then the words or phrases must be clearly marked as derogatory.

An example is the word 'nigger' which is a racial slur for African Americans. The word is included in Webster's Dictionary (1989 edition), with clear notation that it is an "offensive and disparaging" term.

A similar explicit notation should also be included to explain 'keling' and other racially offensive words such as 'chink' or any other term.

In this manner we are not reducing the richness of a language, while at the same time not passing disparaging remarks like 'keling mabuk todi' and 'keling pelikat'.

Like I said in a previous letter, if a community objects to the usage of a term then others should refrain from using it - that should be the test.
