I am not a bit surprised with the attitude of DAP. Through the years, I have noticed that DAP always throws a spanner into the efforts to unite the opposition.

It appears to me that DAP is a sleeping partner of Barisan Nasional. Look at the numerous occasions the party purges its capable leaders - this always occurs at critical times where the BN is at its most vulnerable, such as just before the 1999 general election.

In my view, our country is overdue for a truly multi-racial constituted political party. It is therefore most gratifying to note that this has finally taken shape in the form of Parti Keadilan Rakyat.

The reality of Malaysia is such that the call for multi-racial unity will only have a chance of success if it comes from a Malay political leadership.

In this case, the new party fits this mould and should be supported by all communities. The Chinese in particular should not miss this opportunity for a better political system for our country.

Let us hope that the new party will take firm root and shape a better nation for our future generations.
