Dungun Fire Station chief Nor Azizi Che Noh said three new forest fires have been detected in Dungun district today.

They are in Kampung Tiong (5 ha), Batu 7 Industrial Area (7 ha), Kampung Pengkalan Jering and Kampung Che Lijah (5 ha).

"The fire caused thick smoke which shrouded Dungun town and the surrounding areas. Visibility of road users is also affected," he told reporters when met at the scene.

Firemen have been fighting the forest fire in Kampung Tok Kah (411 ha) for two months now. They are down to the last five hectares.

Nor Azizi said they are focusing on the areas fearing the fires might spread and become bigger.

"We are letting the forest to burn due to lack of manpower as the firemen have to handle many fires in the district.

"Firemen are stationed in the areas to monitor and stop the fires from spreading."

Twenty-four firemen from Dungun station are involved in fighting fires all over the district.
