Chew rebuts 'conspiracy' to keep Anwar away

MCA vice-president Chew Mei Fun today rubbished the touting of PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim’s Sodomy II conviction yesterday as a conspiracy to stop Anwar 's Kajang Move.
Anwar, Chew said, already knew from beginning that the appellate court would deliver its judgment yesterday, but yet his party still opted for a by-election with him as the candidate.

Anwar, Chew said, already knew from beginning that the appellate court would deliver its judgment yesterday, but yet his party still opted for a by-election with him as the candidate.
"From what I learned, the fact that the court would pass judgment yesterday had been made known to him," she said after giving out roses in conjunction with International Women's Day at a market in Sungai Chua, Kajang.
"Under such circumstances, why still want to create a by-election?" Chew said in response to a question on why the court judgment came out so close to the Kajang by-election nomination date of March 11.
However, Chew conceded that the "Reformasi 2.0" campaign, if launched by Pakatan Rakyat, would have an impact on the MCA in the by-election, given the fact that the reformasi campaigns 15 years ago made huge waves.
"Yes, definitely, there will be impact," she said. "But, we will face this calmly, as we know what we are doing is right.
“At least we did not cause the by-election... As a political party, whenever a seat is vacated, we will take part in the by-election.
Chew: I don’t share Perkasa's ideology
Following Anwar’s conviction yesterday evening and the five-year jail term imposed on him, PKR deputy president Azmin Ali at a ceramah last night angrily vowed to make MCA lose its deposit, after.
Chew refused to respond directly to this, only saying that the people could distinguish right from wrong.
She also urged her political opponents not to oppress and tarnish her image, just because she is being fielded by the BN to contest in Kajang.
Citing her recent controversial appearance on the same stage with the Perkasa Negeri Sembilan chief, Chew said Nga Kor Ming should apologise for accusing her of having connections with Perkasa.
"Should I screen through guests lists, to see if Perkasa leaders will be there, before deciding whether I should attenda function?" she asked, and added that she has no say on the organisers' guests at functions she attends.
"I usually leave as soon as I finish my speech. I have no connection with Perkasa. I do not share Perkasa's ideology. In fact, our ideologies are contrary to each other," Chew said.
