DAP and PRM should talk some sense into Parti Keadilan Nasional with regards to its blind loyalty towards PAS. The recent PAS-Keadilan Youth gathering was a letdown for supporters of Keadilan-Barisan Alternatif like myself.

We were filled with hope in the last elections when the four opposition parties made a pact to become the opposition. For the first time since I became of voting age some twenty years ago, there was a strong and united opposition.

DAP seemed to put aside its Malaysian Malaysia agenda and PAS seemed to do likewise to its Islamic state objective. Under the BA, all four parties focussed on a common manifesto of the single opposition.

Unfortunately, when BA captured Terengganu, PAS claimed the state as its own, forgetting that many former Umno supporters who had turned to Keadilan voted for BA and not for PAS. Similarly, non-Malay voters who rejected outright the formation of an Islamic state also voted for BA.

It was therefore the right move on DAP's part to withdraw from the coalition after being so betrayed by PAS. Now PRM appears to be on the verge of doing so after its recent 36th party congress.

I hope Keadilan would wake up and join DAP and PRM to form a new coalition to take on BN in the next election and even contest in constituencies in which PAS is contesting.

Yes it is a sad move and can seriously reduce the opposition's chances, but PAS needs to be taught a lesson. The tens of thousands who joined PAS in the couple of weeks following the Anwar Ibrahim episode in 1998 did so not because they believed or supported PAS' struggle.

The mass exodus to PAS was a form of protest against the BN and since there was no other 'Malay' party to turn to then, PAS seemed the logical choice.

Did Keadilan not notice the drastic reduction of new PAS members when Part Keadilan Nasional was officially launched? Does that not give an indication as to which party is more favoured by the Malays who have rejected Umno?
