Reformasi for the police force too

I know the police hate to hear the word 'reformasi' but the sad truth is that, after the tragic abduction and murder of Canny Ong, there are calls for reforms in the police force.
The police do not seem to lack any resources to block peaceful assemblies and even indoor meetings and fire tear gases into crowds.
It also does not seem to lack 'creativity' as seen in the Anwar Ibrahim case, where the ex-deputy premier was blindfolded and assaulted.
But when it comes to serious and real crimes, the police are utterly helpless. Where are the resources, creativity and valour shown in firing tear gasses into peaceful crowds and arresting unarmed reformasi leaders and activists?
