I must congratulate Dato' Chan Kong Choy on his elevation as the new transport minister. For all the fighting that he and his men have painstakingly endured and the hardship that he has gone through, this must have come as a just reward to him and his men.

However, for some strange reasons, the 'hoo-ha' over MCA's take over of Nanyang Siang Pau and the China Press has quietened down following the resignations of Ling Liong Sik and Lim Ah Lek and the appointments of Ong Ka Ting and Chan as the new party president and deputy president respectively.

It seems that, since Chan is now in a position to benefit from the control of Nanyang Siang Pau and China Press, the need to maintain a "free and independent" Chinese press is not relevant nay more. The community's aspirations to see "balanced and unbiased" reporting by the Chinese press, is also not relevant.

Can Chan and his colleagues in Team B (if it still exists) stand up and declare that they were truly and honestly fighting for "free and independent" press and were looking after the aspirations of the Chinese community when they took up the crusade against their comrades in Team A?

Or were they only fighting for positions in MCA?
