Tired of receiving threats since her "Onederful Malaysia 2014" video was posted online a month ago, Seputeh MP Teresa Kok today reminded Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak that extremists don't simply go away if ignored.

The DAP leader said Najib was negating his responsibility if he doesn't step up and take "swift and harsh" action against those who fan racial and religious hatred.

Kok pointed out that no action was seen against the Council of Islamic NGOs, which staged a demonstration on Feb 6, offering reward for the public to slap her and also slaughtered chickens.

"Let me remind Najib that it is the responsibility of the government to act swiftly and harshly against extremists and instigators who are fanning racial and religious hatred and challenging the rule of law.

"A prime minister cannot abdicate his leadership responsibilities," added the DAP leader in a statement.

In a blog post earlier this week, Najib had called on the media and social media not to publicise the cause of extremists.  He said that they need not be condemned, just ignored.

On Tuesday, red paint was splashed on Malaysiakini 's office wall and signboard, and a duck was boxed in with Kok's picture slapped on it.

A similar "threat" had been issued less than a week ago, when red paint and a dead chicken was thrown on the steps leading up to Kok's office.

Kok noted that the government had been ignoring these and other threats.

"It is plain enough that among their offences included the incitement of another May 13 riot and criminal intimidation against me. Yet, Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi gave his irresponsible response when he said that the “cash reward to slap me” made by the group was not a threat, " she said.

Furthermore, Kok cited that even BN loyalist, former finance minister Daim Zainudin, could see that only a strong government can arrest the rise of instability, which threatens Malaysia’s economy if such extremists are left to run free.
