DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang cited Najib's blog saying the plan “will be unveiled and implemented over the next few months” as a result of “months of quiet work”.
"This is the second time that Najib has mentioned the national reconciliation plan.
"Before January 29, nobody has ever heard of a national reconciliation plan.
"Who drafted this national reconciliation plan and who had been consulted? This is still a great mystery up to now," said Lim in a statement today.
Lim added that if there was indeed such a plan in the works, whether there would be duplication in the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC) going about on a similar objective.
"Why and what is the use of the NUCC a nationwide roadshow to hold 18 dialogues to collect feedback from the public on national unity and inter-ethnic harmony to draft a national unity blueprint (NUB) - with the NUCC given two years to finalise the NUB though coming out with an interim report in six months’ time?" he asked.
Lim asked in the NUCC has received copies of the said plan or if it was still "still covered by the Official Secrets Act".
For such an endeavour to be more comprehensive and inclusive, he said, public feedback should be solicited before finalising it.
As such, the plan should be made available to all MPs for it to be debated in the coming Parliamentary session a fortnight from now, he added.
'Is Najib serious?'
Lim, who is also Gelang Patah MP, cast doubt on the PM's sincerity in such a plan citing his use of the race card in calling the last general election results a “Chinese tsunami”.
Apart from repeatedly talking about a national reconciliation plan, Najib, he said, has also done "absolutely nothing in the past ten months" to aid the process of national reconciliation.
The PM has instead "stood idly by while irresponsible and reckless elements embarked on their nefarious and treacherous designs to incite racial and religious animosities and hatred" throughout the country, he said.
Najib had failed to nip the problem in the bud, he said, quoting former Finance Minister Daim Zainuddin.
"This is exactly Najib’s failure, as evident from the failures of the government and the police in the past 10 months to act against those responsible for incessantly inciting racial and religious animosities and hatred through lies and falsehoods, most notably the Umno newspaper Utusan Malaysia.
"As a result, Malaysia in the past 10 months had never been so polarised whether in terms of race or religion in the 56-year history of the nation," said Lim.
