Don't give extremists publicity, says PM

Telestai!: PM Najib Razak, we agree that it doesn't help the situation when the people give publicity to racial and religious extremists through the social media.

This statement would have been acceptable if it came from a nondescript Malaysian like me but not you, the prime minister. You have been elected by us to protect our rights from being trampled on but these extremists.

We also have the right to be informed of their shenanigans. By telling us to ignore them, are you not telling us that you're not in control of the ultras within Umno - the enemy from within?

Corgito Ergo Sum: In other words, according to Najib, don't do anything and it will all go away. So not reporting acts of criminal intimidation, incitement and bigotry will make it go away?

Yes, it will not be reported but the acts will go on unabated because your inaction means “please carry on”. You are the epitome of ignorance.

Tholu: Is this all the PM can come out with after months of raging racial and religious tensions in this country?

One would have thought that after remaining silent for such a long time on such damning actions by these race- and religion-based extremist NGOs, the CEO of the nation would have stomped his foot down and come down hard on them calling forth the relevant laws to clamp down on their seditious words and deeds.

Instead, this depraved weakling who is enormously scant on political sagacity and administrative acumen, simply tells us: “We don’t have to condemn them, just ignore them.”

A slew of serious crimes have been committed by these extremists groups who should be incarcerated under the Penal Code and the sedition laws for flagrantly inciting and prodding racial and religious hatred and animosity and all he has to say is, “Ignore them.”

But then again, the indifference and nonfeasance of the authorities on these extremist groups could be at his behest after all.

Onyourtoes: Look PM, you are just repeating what your underlings said everyday - extremism is being played up by both sides of the aisle, and all Malaysians are culpable and responsible for our present state of affairs.

Well, I disagree. I believe extremism and racism are deliberately orchestrated by people fearful of losing power. I believe they use the state apparatuses and even finance some of the NGOs to cause discord.

It is not racism and extremism when one fights back bullying, unreasonableness and stupidity that were clearly manifested for all to see. For example, in what ways is Teresa Kok’s video racial and extreme?

It is to highlight opulent living, incompetency and unexplained wealth of many of our leaders and their families.

Now you look at the response to that video by certain quarters - that it is an insult to Malay race, Malay culture, Malay rulers and Islam, in addition to chicken blood and red paint being smeared everywhere.

This is deliberately using racism, extremism and intimidation to silence legitimate criticism of government and its leaders in a democracy.

We have the right to label those who harass Teresa Kok racists; on the other hand, you have no right to label the video racial or extreme. It’s as simple as that.

RR: Najib, you know who the racial and religious extremists are in this country. You did not lift a finger to warn them and bring them to sanity. In fact, all these extremists are fully backed by Umno. After all, former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad is the patron of Perkasa.

Nonetheless, we must realise that a vast majority of the Malays are peace-loving as they can see what is happening in the Arab countries where Muslims are killing one other.

The non-Malay NGOs are not extremists. They are only seeking justice.

Anonymous #20513663: Perhaps the PM can explain how it is that, according to the Pew Forum , we are ranked among the 24 worst countries in the world for religious restrictions imposed by the state/government.

So where is the extremism coming from? Ordinary Malaysians? Or somewhere 'higher up'? What 'reconciliation' is this?

Just_A_Rakyat: Thank you for the advice of not giving publicity to extremist remarks, sir. How about showing some leadership by reprimanding this group of people. We play our part, you do yours. How about that?

Joker: PM, what reconciliation? Right after GE13 you said BN was swept away by the Chinese ‘tsunami’. Is that what you call reconciliation?

It is you, the PM, who is condoning all these acts as these people are all in the government's payroll. As the boss, you are responsible for their actions. If you truly promote reconciliation and are against extremism, you need to tell them off.

You cannot afford to be silent as silence means consent. There is no need to ask the pacifists to be peaceful, check instead the extremists. Otherwise, you are a hypocrite.

NuckinFuts: What the heck is Najib saying? The PM's Department pours money into Perkasa and he's saying don’t give them publicity? Wouldn't that be money not well spent?

Wong Lu Shin: Najib, I will not believe a word you say until Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali and the entire editorial board of Utusan Malaysia are thrown in prison for sedition. Nothing less is acceptable.
