Selangor MCA secretary Ng Chok Sin has called on the DAP to stand up to PKR and not let the party play musical chairs for the post of Selangor menteri besar.

Instead, it said, the DAP is “more qualified for the menteri besar's post compared with PKR” as the DAP won 15 legislative assembly seats compared to PKR's 14 in the 13th general election.

“DAP should have courage to collaborate with PAS to lobby for the menteri besar's post from the overbearing PKR...

“I urge the DAP to be brave this time, to stop disappointing Selangor voters and come out to say no to PKR and to fight for the menteri besar's post for the party,” Ng said in a statement yesterday.

But, the MB has to be Malay and Muslim...

However, Ng failed to note that Section 51(2) of the state constitution states that the menteri besar must be “of the Malay race and profess the Muslim religion”.

None of DAP's 15 Selangor assemblypersons are Malay or Muslim.

Ng's statement was in response to claims that PKR's Kajang by-election candidate Anwar Ibrahim will take over as menteri besar in the likely event he defeats MCA's Chew Mei Fun and Independent candidates in the polling on March 23.

Anwar and Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim have both said they will only deal with the menteri besar's post after the by-election.

PAS has 15 out of 56 seats in the House, prompting former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to say that PAS is more worthy of holding the menteri besar's post.

However, PAS central committee member Khalid Samad said PAS is not interested in wresting the post and will support Anwar in the by-election.

The by-election was triggered by the resignation of PKR incumbent Lee Chin Cheh on Jan 27 and is dubbed by PKR as the 'Kajang Move'.
