PAS Youth today urged Malaysia Airlines (MAS) to prepare a special report to reveal the factors behind its RM1.17 billion losses last year, compared to RM432.59 million the previous year.
 
Its vice-chief Khairil Nizam Khirudin said the report is necessary as the national airlines was reported to have improved its revenue to RM15.12 billion compared to RM13.76 billion in 2012.
 
“This is among the worst losses recorded by the national carrier after recording RM2.52 billion in 2011. It is vital for the special report to be made public so the people can evaluate the efforts to revitalise the national airlines.
 
“I do not want to see the losses being as a result of cheating and abuse,” he said in a statement.
 
It was reported that the national carrier suffered losses of RM343.4 million in the last quarter, and a total of RM1.17 billion overall last year.
 
Khairil Nizam said the report must be transparent and audited independently by an outside auditor.
 
“This follows allegations including those from within Umno that there are hidden hands in the appointment of outsiders to senior posts in the company.
 
“The report and study could help evaluate the efforts to turn around the company and for the people to evaluate its success,” he said.
 
Recently, the PAS youth vice chief said there were reports that the national airlines had signed a 10 year-agreement for a fleet management programme with Pratt & Whitney costing US$510 million and he expressed concern about it.
