Teachers are justified in crying foul against a school-based assessment system (SBA) for students, for even Deputy Education Minister P Kalamanathan finds it difficult, says an opposition MP.

In an effort to stave off tomorrow’s  protest against the PBS by teachers, Kamalanathan ( left ) yesterday tried out the much-panned system in a Kajang school, The Star Online reported today.

His verdict, The Star Onlin e said, was that it was hard to do , after taking two minutes to feed in the data for just one student into the computer system.

Therefore, PAS Temerloh MP Nasrudin Hasan said, in a statement today, the government should immediately suspend the SBA system, which was introduced in 2011 as an alternative to examinations in primary and secondary schools.

Burden hinders the focus: to teach

"If Kamalanathan also sweated while filling up data for one student using the PBS, how about the situation for teachers who have around 80 students to cater for?" asked Nasrudin.

After testing out for himself, Kamalanathan was quoted saying that the government understood the difficulties and had a "war room and a hotline" for teachers to report their problems to.

But Nasrudin ( right ) counted the cost of burdening teachers with the SBA.

"This management burden hinders their main focus, which is to teach the students. If the main focus is compromised, then it is feared that we may not produce quality students in line with the education policy," he added.

Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Muhyiddin Yassin had recently said that the PBS was being reviewed .

Teachers and NGOs have come together under the '222 Mansuh PBS' (222 Abolish SBA) movement, and plan to carry out their protest at the Bandar Baru Bangi mosque in Selangor from 1pm to 4pm tomorrow.
