The Malay Mail and its three other partners in the Media Alliance are creating a digital revolution for their subscription packages by offering phablets to Malaysians to access the news.

The Malay Mail editor-in-chief Wong Sai Wan said the phablets would come in two packages which provided subscribers with 15 applications including four ePapers.

“The explosion of social media and mobile technology today has encouraged us to explore new opportunities by offerring news and other information to the reader via the phablet and applications in it.

“With the phablet, the subscriber not only gets access to ePaper of the Media Alliance comprising The Malay Mail, Sinar Harian, Oriental Daily News and Makkal Osai , but also several applicationa such as SeeClickFix, Crime Check, TGV Cinema and RinggitPlus,” he said at a news conference in Petaling Jaya today.

He said the subscriber would get to choose between two packages, RM288 for a Huawei MediaPad 7 Youth phablet or Samsung Galaxy Tab 3.7 for RM538.

Wong said the registration for the subscription would start at the end of this month, and the phablet would be delivered to the subscriber on March 21.

Wong expected around 100,000 phablets to be distributed to the people within six months.

“We are confident of getting 100,000 subscribers because we had very good response before this with around 10,000 people showing interest to subscribe to the packages,” he said.
