Friday sermon sounds Valentine’s Day warning

Onyourtoes: To love and being loved are great emotions created and instituted by God. You can’t stifle it; you can’t prevent it. It is part of God’s creation. It is part of growing up; it is part of growing old.

Love is not sex; more love is not more sex. Premarital sex, illicit sex and illegitimate children are prohibited not just by Islam but also by other major religions.

But illicit activities will continue to exist whether Valentine’s Day exists or is celebrated or not. It is part of human failings, don’t blame it on Valentine’s Day.

Geronimo: My son woke up early this morning, and before going off to work, he came and gave me a hug and wished me, "Dad, Happy Valentine's Day."

According to Malaysian Islamic Development Department’s (Jakim) interpretation, both father and son must be gay. What a warped logic!

Anon1: If Jakim is afraid that there will be a "big disaster as confusion and moral degradation will reign in our society" and that celebrating Valentine's Day may start "unhealthy social habits such as fraud, mental disorders from alcohol, abortions and babies being abandoned", are they acknowledging that they have failed over the years since its inception in inculcating sound religious and moral values all this while?

One day of the year is enough to turn a decent man into a morally depraved person? Wow! And they forgot to add incest to that list of "unhealthy social habits".

Swipenter: Jakim, what about Mother's Day and Father's Day? These are also imported culture from the West.

Is showing love, respect and gratitude to our parents the western way (or non-Islamic way to be specific) leads to total breakdown and "moral confusion" in Malay-Muslim society?

Not Smart: Jakim, don't pretend by saying that "this may just be the start". By the way, why use "fraud" instead of "corruption"?

It is a fact that our nation is already soaked and infested with corruption; leaders with "mental disorders"; abortions and babies being abandoned; and Muslims consuming alcohol.

Though you may be right that "Western" culture had invaded Malaysia, undermining the Islam faith, but we have also improvised and re-exported skills such as bribery and corruption back to the West.

In Islam, when we point with one thumb, four fingers point back at us. Strengthen the faith of the young ones and things will not go wrong and others cannot shake our faith.

Fourtan: Jakim, might I remind you that Islam itself is a wholly imported ‘western’ cultural phenomenon. But I guess, it happened such a long time ago that you've forgotten.

James1067: The world is becoming too small to try to control the minds of individuals. Information is at our fingertips.

It would be better to allow individuals to explore, learn and to be educated so that they can make better decisions when faced with all sort of situations in their life.

They would be more steadfast in their beliefs by then. To keep their minds enslaved will deprive them of the ability to survive when they are alone out there in the world.

Cry, My Beloved Country: Valentine’s Day is a day of fun for the young at heart celebrated for umpteen years. Just because you don't like it, it does not mean others cannot enjoy it.

Anonymous$&@?: Copyright the word ‘Valentine’ so that it will not confuse the easily confused Muslims. Problem solved.

PAS divisions urged to go on anti-Valentine's drive

James1067: Sin is the work of the devil and he has been around thousands of years around before these humans have existed.

He is far more advanced mentally than the best psychiatrist to know how the mind of humans work. He does not need Valentine’s Day as he has all the days of the individual’s life to corrupt him or her.

Goh Pick Ting: People do not just wait for Valentine's Day to indulge in vice. Only those who do not have morals, self-esteem and dignity would believe that Valentine’s Day is a day where you do vice.

Proper teachings, awareness, high moral values should be the correct path to follow, and not simply blame it on Valentine’s Day.

If so, by stopping Valentine’s Day, there'll be no more vice activities. With that, the 2,000-year history of the flesh trade will simply vanish.

Heavenly King: Bullying others is a sin. Taking away others' rights is also a sin. Peeping is yet another sin.

Anon1: “'Street Dakwah' will enter dark and lonely alleys, suspicious premises, quiet lake gardens, luxury and budget hotels and sharehouses to ensure no vice is committed.”

I find this statement really funny. Imagine members of the squad arguing with one another on what defines "dark and lonely", "suspicious premises" and "quiet lake gardens".
