Facebook user ‘Man Namblast’ who allegedly posted seditious remarks about Thaipusam in January was remanded for four days from yesterday.

Gombak police chief ACP Abdul Rahim Abdullah said the 35-year-old teacher of a secondary school in Segambut was arrested at his house in Batu Caves at about 12.30pm yesterday.  

He said following the arrest, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission seized a central processing unit and a modem from his house.

The suspect is in the custody of the Gombak Police District Headquarters for investigations under Section 4 (1) of the Sedition Act 1948, he said when contacted.

Meanwhile, MIC Youth chief C Sivarraajh today doubled the cash reward for anyone who could provide information on the whereabouts of another Facebook user, Mohamed Hidayat, for allegedly posting seditious remarks about Thaipusam in January.

“We are offering RM10,000 for anyone who could assist the authorities in arresting the person,” he told a news conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

So far 496 police reports have been lodged nationwide against the two Facebook users over the posts.
