It is enlightening for Dr Rais Yatim to call on the Anti-Corruption Agency to be a bit more transparent in its high-powered investigations. He was probably not referring to the Perwaja scandal, the invoice scandal at Celcom, the MAS scandal in Germany or the invoice scandal within the Army.

He was probably referring to a local daily's report on Jan 24, 2003 on Umno Terengganu castigating the state government misusing tithe collections. We all know the money was meant for the needy and any deviation from such aims should not be tolerated.

In fact, the Umno state information chief was quoted as saying, "We are sad that people holding positions in the State Government and earning high salaries are enjoying the benefits of the tithes'.

I urge Umno to keep up the crusade of ensuring that people in high positions earning higher salaries do not abuse the situation. The nation is grateful that they are speaking for the poor and weak.
