Ammonia pollution found in Sungai Langat

A total of 36 areas in the Hulu Langat and Kuala Langat districts are expected to face water supply disruption following the closure of the water treatment plants at the 11th Mile Cheras and Bukit Tampoi since Tuesday following the discovery of ammonia pollution in Sungai

Residents in Hulu Langat and Kuala Langat are set to face water disruption.
A total of 36 areas in the Hulu Langat and Kuala Langat districts are expected to face water supply disruption following the closure of the water treatment plants at the 11th Mile Cheras and Bukit Tampoi since Tuesday following the discovery of ammonia pollution in Sungai
Langat.
According to a Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) statement yesterday, the closure of both plants would cause supply of water to be reduced to 56 million litres per day in the affected areas.
Syabas, however, will be mobilising its lorry tankers and temporary static tanks when necessary.
Syabas also encouraged residents in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya to save water to enable surplus water to be channelled to the affected areas.
Among the areas affected are Taman Setia, Desa Karunmas, Cheras Jaya, Taman Bukit Emas, Taman Impian Indah, Taman Sejati, Taman Bukit Sungai Long, Taman Taming Indah, Cheras Jaya industries, Taman Sri Indah, Taman Impian Ehsan, Taman Kasturi, Kampung Baru Cina Balakong, Taman Sri Sungai Long, Rumah Kenangan Cheras and Pekan Batu 11.
The other areas involved are Kampung Olak Lempit, Kampung Bukit Changgang, Kampung Labihan Dagang, Taman Changgang Jaya, Kompleks Perabut Olak Lempit, Bukit Changgang, Bandar Seri Ehsan, Bandar Mahkota, Bandar Sungai Emas, Taman Arked, Taman Sri Dagang, Taman Ambar, Taman Langat Murni, Taman Langat Utama, Taman Murnimas, Taman Sri, Taman Sri Cheding, Sekolah Tamil Sungai Sedu and Selangor Dredging.
Syabas said the matter had been reported to the Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas), which is responsible for raw water supply in the state.
“At the moment, Syabas is still uncertain when the pollution problem will be resolved to enable its treatment plants to resume operation,” the statement said.
