Counter-terrorism task force will dissolve on Feb 1

The Bukit Aman Special Task Force (Operations and Counter Terrorism) will be disbanded on Saturday and its duties taken over by the Commercial Crime Investigations Department (CCID) and the Special Branch.
Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said the CCID would cover financial investigations under the Anti-Money Laundering Act while the Special Branch would handle cases under the Anti-Terrorism Financing Act 2011, which were previously under the special task force.
The Bukit Aman Special Task Force (Operations and Counter Terrorism) will be disbanded on Saturday and its duties taken over by the Commercial Crime Investigations Department (CCID) and the Special Branch.
Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said the CCID would cover financial investigations under the Anti-Money Laundering Act while the Special Branch would handle cases under the Anti-Terrorism Financing Act 2011, which were previously under the special task force.
"With the dissolution, it does not mean this issue (terrorism-related cases) is not important, we are only restructuring the role and responsibilities of the officers and personnel under the department concerned," Khalid said.
He was speaking to reporters after the handing-over ceremony involving outgoing CCID director Syed Ismail Syed Azizan and incoming CCID deputy director (I) Datuk Tajudin Isa on an acting basis in Kuala Lumpur today.
The special task force, which operated from the Bukit Aman police headquarters, was established on March 1, 2009. It was aimed at combating and containing threats, including those related to violence, organised crime and illegal money laundering.
The department was also responsible in addressing militant threats and terrorists from within and outside the country.
Meanwhile, the post of CCID director will be officially taken over by Management Department director Mortadza Nazarene at a later date.
Khalid said the post of federal management director would be taken over by Mohamad Fuzi Haron, director of the soon-to-be defunct Bukit Aman Special Task Force (Operations and Counter Terrorism).
