Reezal: Think carefully before vying in Kajang

Despite the enthusiasm shown by Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to contest the impending Kajang by-election, an Umno leader has urged some caution before the party plunges itself into the polls.
He says the polls is a ‘tool to satisfy Anwar’s greed for power’.
Despite the enthusiasm shown by Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to contest the impending Kajang by-election, an Umno leader has urged some caution before the party plunges itself into the polls.
Kepala Batas MP Reezal Merican Naina Merican said BN should study the matter carefully before involving itself in the by-election which he describes as having “low moral value”.
He also described the polls, which will see BN face PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, Umno’s arch rival, as merely a “tool to satisfy the opposition leader’s greed for power”.
However, Reezal, who is also Umno supreme council member, claimed that this suggestion is his personal view.
“Psychologically, it will prove to the Selangor voters that they have chosen a political monster who is not only greedy but one who only thinks of himself,” Reezal told Malaysiakini.
“Perhaps, if Anwar wins uncontested, this will in the long run spoil the relationship between DAP, PAS and PKR,” he added.
“But we must not pander to Anwar’s madness and greed for power. All this merely shows the people the true character of Anwar,” he stressed.
Reezal told Anwar to throw away the word ‘reformasi’ from his party’s dictionary.
“He had just thrown the word ‘reformasi’ into a dirty and stinking drain,” Reezal quipped.
Reezal is also neither convinced nor amused by Anwar’s reason for contesting the by-election to purportedly boost Selangor’s “excellent service”.
Reezal said that Anwar’s words only mean that he wants to boost his own “political ego”.
“PKR members, Selangor people and Kajang voters must open their eyes that this is Anwar’s political game for his own interests while he has betrayed the people’s trust,” Reezal said.
He then sent his condolences to former PKR Kajang assemblyperson Lee Chin Cheh for vacating his seat on Monday to pave the way for the candidacy of “an outsider”, Anwar, in the constituency.
In 2008, Anwar’s wife Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail vacated the Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat for Anwar to contest there, which he won handsomely, after serving a six-year jail term on sodomy charges.
But Selangor PKR chief and election director Azmin Ali said that this was a “tactical move” to prepare for the Sarawak state election and 14th general election which may be called as early as 2016.
