Anwar Ibrahim is ‘blind’ for writing off a wicked plan being hatched to overthrow Islam in Malaysia, Muslim NGO Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma) charged today.

Isma president Abdullah Zaik Abdul Rahman took Anwar to task for his speech on Sunday, in which he emphasised the need for national reconciliation amidst recent religious and racial tensions in the country.

Abdullah Zaik said Anwar's speech, addressed to moderate Malaysians, missed the point.

He said the "collective greed" of the people had let the proxies of the Jews, Freemasons and Evangelical Christians to sow foreign ideas into the country and these "extremist" groups were aggressively attacking Islam.

“Anwar (right) tries to write off the worries, irks and insults felt by the Malay-Islam community, which is under attack by liberalism, pluralism and equality - which chips away at the identity and undermines the sovereignty of our religion and race.

“He is insensitive towards the call for total freedom that has ruined the moral standing of the young generation of Muslims," Abdullah Zaik said in a statement.

In his speech addressed to all Malaysians, Anwar had called for all to reject suspicions of a conspiracy to undermine Islam as the official religion.

He called instead for reconciliation talks between Pakatan Rakyat and BN for sake of the country.

However, Isma is sceptical about this.

"Anwar shouldn't take the opportunity from the turmoil to come forth and sell his image as a true blue nationalist," Abdullah Zaik said.
