The Sessions Court in Sepang today acquitted three Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers of nine charges including robbing three Singaporeans of US”300,000 (RM953,580) in 2011.

Judge Ahmad Fairuz Mohd Puzi in his decision said the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case against MACC deputy superintendent S Vijayarao, 36, MACC assistant superintendent Wan Elfie Shafizy Wan Ahmad, 34, and MACC assistant superintendent Aziz Jaafar, 51.

However, a member of the public, T Sritharan, 35, was ordered to enter his defence for impersonating an MACC officer.

Vijayarao, Wan Elfie Shafizy and Aziz were initially charged with three counts of conspiring with Sritharan to rob Singaporeans Hameed Saadik Batcha, Abd Rahman Maricar and Mohamad Zakkaria Mohamed Shatik of US$300,000.    

They allegedly committed the offences in a male toilet adjacent to Restoran Delifrance, Tingkat 1, Bangunan Satellite, KL International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang at 11.25pm on Sept 15, 2011.

They were also accused on three counts of abetting Sritharan to impersonate and present himself as an MACC officer to the three victims at 11pm at the same location and date.

The officers were also charged with three counts of voluntarily concealing Sritharan’s alleged plan to facilitate their alleged commission of gang robbery at 11pm at the same place and date.

Vijayarao was represented by counsel M Athimulan, while Wan Elfie Shafizy, by Afifuddin Hafifi and Aziz, by Mohd Rafizi.

Deputy public prosecutor Muhamad Iskandar Ahmad and Lailawati Ali represented the prosecution.
