Twitterjaya has reacted with instant criticism of PKR’s decision to field its de facto head Anwar Ibrahim in the upcoming by-election for the Kajang state seat in Selangor.

Umno Youth head Khairy Jamaluddin tweeted: ‘What a joke. Might as well crown yourself Sultan of Melaka while you're at it.’

He also referred to a tweet by PKR deputy president Azmin Ali that stated ‘Zaman kegilaan’ (crazy era), replying: ‘Now I know what this tweet really means.’

Zaid Ibrahim, former minister in the Prime Minister's Department had this to say: ‘I’m still not clear why the need for by-election. Anwar better come up with something credible.’

Former Selangor MCA leader Lee Hwa Beng resorted to history to say: ‘Anwar to stand in Kajang. Be warned, Selangor MB's post is jinx(ed) ... as all MBs since Harun (Idris were) forced (to) resign by their parties due to power struggle, sex or corruption scandals.’

He later proposed a campaign slogan: ‘Kajang by-election slogan: If you want Khalid Ibrahim to remain as Selangor MB, vote for BN. Aiyoh, will be BN's battle cry!’

Meanwhile former Perlis mufti Dr Asri Zainul Abidin lambasted Pakatan for wasting of public funds, saying it was “playing around” with the election.

“No other YBs want to resign? Can make way for their friends. Use up more of the people’s money. Pilihan raya kat main-main aje! (Just playing around with elections).

“If I was a politician, I would contest against any party that plays around with the Kajang by-election. Waste of the rakyat’s money!” he tweeted.

Netizens were not impressed either.

Asked @harvinthskin: ‘Anwar, are you a BN politician in disguise?’

Lord Sdq of Killowen: ‘I thought Anwar said he wanted to retire after GE13?!’

Farhan Nor Deanna: ‘Anwar Ibrahim is a true pathetic loser.’

@MonyetArctic: ‘Because Anwar is the hero that Selangor deserves, but not the one it needs right now.’
