10-point solution akin to a 'bounced' cheque
Onyourtoes: Despite the 10-point agreement, we must recognise the difference and demarcation of jurisdiction between the federal government and the respective state governments. There is no doubt in the insincerity and indecisiveness of the federal government on this issue given its track records.
But surely we would not want the federal government to impose its will on states which clearly have their own jurisdiction (again I must emphasise it is the principle, not expediency that we must adhere to).
In addition to hassling the federal government for action, why can’t the same pressure be exerted on the state government? The law that was used to raid the Bible Society of Malaysia (BSM) was a state enactment passed by the state assembly, not a decree by someone or a federal act of parliament.
The state must restrain unwarranted enforcement of the enactment, failing which there must be attempt made to amend the state enactment or declare it unconstitutional (as per articles in the constitution governing freedom of religion) through court action.
Samurai: Indeed, the cheque was issued knowing there was nothing in the account. After all, nearly all the states in Malaysia have the enactment banning the word 'Allah' even before the 10-point solution was drafted.
It's pretty clear now that the 'solution' was done knowingly, safe that there is the state enactment to blame so that the cabinet can wash its hands as it has done now.
So the Sarawakians have been taken for a ride, and ministers like Joseph Kurup and past lame ducks like him have been complicit in this piece of joke that actually insults the intelligence of the Borneo Christians.
Sali Tambap: We keep hearing different reasons why ‘Allah’ is banned for Christians. It is said it would cause confusion to the Muslims. Unsaid but implied - that those confused Muslims would convert to Christianity, that there are Christians who use the confusion to propagate Christianity among Muslims. Surely these reasons have been addressed. With all the publicity - why is the confusion now?
With the existing law on non-propagation to the Muslims, surely that is also already addressed. Then Malay Muslims are saying Christians in the peninsula had never used ‘Allah’ but only now. What do they expect? There are Dayaks who live in the ulus who have never seen a Malay person. But now, there are hundreds of ustaz from the peninsula posted to 100 percent non-Muslim Dayak schools. What they are doing there?
This is what we call cultural shock due to movement, integration and exchange of Malaysians to different parts of Malaysia.
The thousands of East Malaysian Christians in the peninsula do create this new phenomenon, but so does the peninsula population who move to East Malaysia due to one reason or another. But this is not enough reason to stop them from practising their religion as how they want to.
Just imagine a group of Dayak youths getting agitated just because a Malay Muslim teacher in their area teaches Islam to their children or pray the Islamic way or befriend their women; and because of all that make a law that Malay Muslims should not do that any more because it offends the sensitivity of the Dayaks.
Malaysia has been in existence for more than 50 years and by the same token, let us all get out of our coconut shells and face the reality that there are other people in Malaysia beside ourselves.
K B Menon: The expression 'speaking with a forked tongue ' must have been invented for our 'PM' Najib Abdul Razak. Since we are on the issue of barring words one can use, I suggest that Najib be banned from using the word 'nambikei' (trust) forever more. I cringe and get the ‘heebie jeebies' whenever he mouths that word.
2 Tim 1:7: The word ‘taqiyya’ literally means, "Concealing, precaution, guarding.” It is employed in disguising one's beliefs, intentions, convictions, ideas, feelings, opinions or strategies.
In practical terms it is manifested as dissimulation, lying, deceiving, vexing and confounding... To be open, frank and forthright or to make self-damning admissions in his dealings (particularly with the infidel enemy) is to leave himself open and vulnerable to humiliating shame and to the subsequent disrespect from his peers.
Tongues will wag in the bazaar’s coffee shops and rumours will rapidly spread that so-and-so has lost his "manliness" and status. In short, he is no longer worthy of deferential respect...
The skilled taqiyya tactician doesn’t want the matter at hand to be debated or discussed; so his opponent must be outwitted or preemptively outflanked by the use of taqiyya. The objective is to divert attention away from the subject through duplicity and obfuscation.
Multi Racial: Since ascending to become the prime minister of Malaysia, Najib Abdul Razak has yet to show to Malaysians that he is their prime minister. As far as we are concerned, he is the prime minister for Umno and Perkasa only.
Senior: If the Muslims here are different from the rest of the world because of the National Fatwa Council, are they deviants to the rest of the world?
YOM: This is the problem when instead of tackling the problem at the outset, the issue was allowed to grow, become twisted, and manipulated. We hear comments about the PM being weak. I say we don’t have a PM!
Ontoi: No lah, not a 'bounced' cheque lah! Bank Negara would say it’s a “useless cheque”. It is merely a kangkung-eating exercise. Eat more kangkung, everything would be okay.
