MCA has urged the Finance Ministry to publish the list of qualified vendors of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) compliance software.

In a press release today, MCA vice-president Chua Tee Yong said this was conveyed by the MCA delegation which visited the ministry's GST Implementation Office yesterday.

According to Chua (left), thus far the Finance Ministry was evaluating 60 applications and he had suggested that they seek further submissions online.

"I have also proposed that information on GST software training as well as the software's subsidy mechanism should be made available to the public," he said.

He also urged the ministry to make public its impact study of the GST on low-, medium- and high-income groups to help the public understand how GST will affect them.

The GST has been mooted to widen the tax base and increase government revenue.

Critics claim that this new tax will hurt the lower-income group the most, and that the government should concentrate on plugging leakages and cutting unnecessary government spending.
