Penang gov’t to meet on safety of officials

The Penang state government will hold a meeting to discuss the incident where an official of the Barat Daya District and Land Office was manhandled by a group of traders and villagers in Teluk Bahang two days ago.
The DCM I says all elected reps from the state administration will attend.
The Penang state government will hold a meeting to discuss the incident where an official of the Barat Daya District and Land Office was manhandled by a group of traders and villagers in Teluk Bahang two days ago.
Deputy Chief Minister I Mohd Rashid Hasnon said all elected representatives from the state administration would attend the meeting which would be held at 3pm tomorrow.
“The state government takes a serious view on the criminal case where the Barat Daya principal assistant district officer, Abu Hassan Omar was manhandled to the extent that his shirt was torn in Teluk Bahang two days ago.
“The state government has urged that action be taken under Section 186 of the Penal Code and Section 332 of the same Code,” he told a press conference in George Town today.
Mohd Rashid said the state government denounced such violent acts by a group of irresponsible individuals which had led to a quarrel.
In the incident at about 11am, more than 80 villagers and stall owners in Teluk Bahang had prevented Penang Municipal Council (MPPP) workers from entering their area two days ago.
An official from the Barat Daya District and Land Office was injured on the head and neck believed to be due to being manhandled by a group of traders and villagers who had prevented the authorities from demolishing their stalls.
The MPPP workers, who were escorted by police personnel, had come to demolish the stalls near the entry to the Teluk Bahang National Park.
