This letter is not a personal attack but I think that is symptomatic feature of Umno leadership - where double standards prevail and o­nes priority is based o­n personal interest rather than party and country - needs to be said.

Given below is mild example.

About a year ago, we met Umno Youth assistant secretary Zulkifli Alwi in Scotland o­n his visit to 'explain the situation back home' to students. Needless to say, he came and talked about how good Umno was and how bad PAS was.

It struck me that while Umno played the same game as PAS, the difference was that they made it wrong for students to meet representative of PAS but it was okay to meet the representative of Umno. I'm no PAS supporter but I find this double standards troubling.

To top it all off, Zulkifli was very, very late for the meeting. He was apologetic and said that he got lost o­n his way to our meeting.

We would have left it at that but for o­ne small piece of information. He was chaperoned by our colleague who was in constant communication throughout the delay. Our colleague told students waiting at the meeting that he was o­n his way back with Zulkifli from St Andrews. Funny, we thought politics and students came first and golf second...

I would love to join Umno and help my country but if I have to answer to people like Zulkifli Alwi, I'd rather stay home.
