The express boat service in the Kuching-Sarikei-Sibu route has been temporarily suspended following bad weather and rough sea warnings.

A spokesperson of the Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB) said the route between Muara Tebas, Kuala Rajang and Tanjung Po was closed today following forecast of strong winds and rough seas.

“Operation has been halted until further notice,” an SRB spokesperson told Bernama today.

He said the Meteorological Department was forecasting winds of up to between 40 and 60kph with waves as high as three meters until Friday.

“The condition is too dangerous for small and express boats.

“In January alone, fourteen people lost their lives in the state following a boat that capsized and we did not want the tragedy to repeat,” he said.
