The Terengganu government plans to purchase several amphibious vehicles for use during the floods, and also for tourism purpose, especially at Tasik Kenyir.

Menteri Besar Ahmad Said said the government was now looking at the quotations submitted by the manufacturers of the vehicles concerned.

“I have seen pictures of some of the amphibians, like boats and buses, that can carry passengers of up to 50 people, and lorries which can be laden with 10 tonnes of goods.

“If we buy these vehicles, we will ascertain they will not be a waste of public funds because during normal situation, they will be used for tourism at Tasik Kenyir where a nominal fee will be imposed for the ride.

“During the floods, they will be used to evacuate flood victims,” he told reporters after presenting aid to flood victims at Kampung Pasir Gajah in Kemaman.

Ahmad said state Tourism and Culture Committee cairperson Mohd Jidin Shafee would be in Europe in February to view the amphibians concerned.
