Idris Jala told to quit over 'Allah' fiasco

Gunner: Do you think by 'quitting', this fiasco can be resolved. I don't think so. Asking Minister in the PM’s Department Idris Jala to quit is too harsh. I rather ask him to find ways, from within, how to tackle the issue quietly.

Remember, he is no politician. He doesn't make noise like politicians or NGO leaders do. I believe he has been trying to do something about it.

I don't believe by issuing statements after statements will pacify those emotional parties. It will only encourage more heated public debates.

Pemerhati: Going by PM Najib Razak’s past behaviour and track record, it would be most surprising if Najib and his yes-man cabinet did not conveniently and deliberately forget about the 10-point solution.

Altantuya Shaariibuu, P Balasubramaniam, Deepak Jaikishan and P Waythamoorthy discovered that Najib does not honour his undertakings. Now Idris Jala too has discovered that Najib is completely untrustworthy.

But Idris Jala should be careful and not annoy Najib too much by reminding him about his broken promise. Remember what happened to Altantuya?

Oh Ya?: It’s not fair to blame it squarely on him when the Ibans and Kadazans and their political parties are the fixed deposits of the ruling elite. Until and unless they stop supporting the ruling elite, the 10 or 20 points are just flake.

Garawan: We should not point fingers at Idris Jala. He is not the cause of this problem, nor can he resolve this alone. Sadly, he has been used by Najib to gain support in Sabah and Sarawak just before GE13 through the so-called 10-point (more like 7-point) solution.

One familiar with the law should already realise this solution is not binding and was used only as an election ploy. Rather, we should pray for Idris Jala and the whole of Malaysia for peace and understanding among all races and religions.

Kelate: As a Christian, I appeal to fellow Christians to avoid judging another Christian, especially those that we may not know well.

Idris Jala, as a Christian and minister, deserves our prayer. If we do not believe in praying anymore in such situation as this, then we may want to also question if we are still a believing Christian.

But if still we insist to judge him, prematurely or otherwise, then according to Matthew 7 and James 4 - God will also judge us by the same judgement that we had used. May God have mercy on us all.

505 Rakyat: In a time of moral crises, Idris does not have the luxury of silence. He must speak out soon as to basis of the 10-point solution and the authority of the federal government to make such an agreement.

He must reveal the truth and expose the liars and their true intentions. There is no way such an agreement could be made without the Agong being briefed and the consent of the Umno leadership.

Odin: As long as he is still happily wearing the 1Malaysia badge on his jacket lapel, he will not resign his position.

As I have commented before, and the comment was one of those highlighted by Malaysiakini editors, that badge is a symbol of deceit.

Only when he disagrees with what the badge represents will be resign his position.

Apa Ini?: Yes, Idris should resign as a matter of honour. But what do our ministers know about honour?

Stevia Rebaudiana: Think wisely, why should only Idris Jala resign? The Allah issue affects the whole lot of the Christian community, so it is only right that the whole lot of the Christian MPs in BN resign en bloc.

Rakyat-in-grief: Idris Jala resigning from the cabinet will not change the situation. On the contrary, he should stay and make use of his position to solve the problem and speak openly on the matter.

The outcome of such an action will prompt him to do what is appropriate. Resigning at this point is not a sensible option.

Fernz: The Federal Constitution does not state that the federation must be governed according to Islam and the syariah.

Articles 3(1), 3(4), 4, 11 and 12 read together clearly show that the federation is a secular state. The syariah is an inferior law and null and void to the extent of its inconsistency with the superior law, the Federal Constitution and civil law.

Paul Warren: While we all know that Idris Jala might be smart and all, and we also know that he has been used and he has been deceived in order to achieve someone else's greater purpose.

The question that begs asking is if he will concede that he was used and he had been deceived by people he trusted.

Unfortunately when anyone gets into the kind of comfort zone as this minister has, conceding to having been deceived is never an option

JustaMalaysian: Idris, just quit. You don't need this job. The longer you keep quiet, the more tainted you become. Just come out and tell the world that you have tried your best. I believe you can find a job anywhere.

We, Sarawakians, can still forgive you if you quit now. If you don't, you are a man of no principle, just like your boss, Najib.
