The Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) questioned Bible Society of Malaysia (BSM) chairperson Lee Min Choon for about two hours this morning over the copies of the Malay language Bible the department seized last week.

Together with Lee were BSM secretary-general Simon Wong and office manager Sinclair Wong, who were questioned by Jais.

The trio were accompanied by Vincent Wong Wai Sang, who is political secretary to Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Joseph Kurup.

Lee told journalists after the questioning that their statements were recorded by a person bearing the name "Malik", who was assisted by two officers.

The line of questioning was related to the background and information on BSM's operations.

"We explained to them (what they wanted to know)... We wished them well in doing their job," he said.

Lee had kind words for the officers, describing them as "a nice bunch of guys".

'Fate unknown'

The BSM chairperson said he was not sure whether they would be charged in court, but hoped that the matter would be amicably resolved among the Selangor agencies.

"With the cooperation from the various state departments, I believe this matter can be resolved amicably.

"The various authorities have to sort themselves out," Lee added.

Jais raided the BSM premises in Damansara Kim last week and confiscated more than 300 copies of the Bible in the Malay and Iban languages that used the word 'Allah'.

The Islamic authority claimed it was merely enforcing the Selangor Non-Islamic Religions (Control of Propagation Among Muslims) Enactment 1988, which bans the use of the word "Allah" by non-Muslims, as well as the Selangor sultan's decree to the same effect.

The trio are being investigated under the state enactment.
