BN MP: Changing gov't won't stop price hikes

Changing the federal government would not stop the series of price hikes that is burdening the people, BN's Pulai MP Nur Jazlan Mohamed said today.

Changing the federal government would not stop the series of price hikes that is burdening the people, BN's Pulai MP Nur Jazlan Mohamed said today.
"The government can only stem the price hike, and we have tried to hold for it for long enough," he said while speaking at the Sinar Harian forum on price hikes after GE13 in Shah Alam.
He also said that the price increases should not be seen as a form of "pressure" by the government on the people.
"The pressure is not from the government. There are external factors that makes prices go up, because we are very dependent on imported goods," he said.
Nur Jazlan (right) added that people should be mindful that the government maybe only "went halfway" in allowing price hikes while trying to control other hikes from happening.
"I'm not saying the government is not wrong at all, but the people too must adjust to this situation," he said.
However, Nur Jazlan, who is also the Public Accounts Committee chair in Parliament, said that he is not in agreement with the government on the proposed toll hikes.
"This is because most of the concessionaires are actually government owned companies. For example, Plus, it is owned by Khazanah. That's the government's company- that's your (people) company. So the government can stop the toll hike," he said.
He then urged the government to be "more transparent" in revealing details about possible price hikes in the future.
"The problem is- they are not transparent enough. They need to tell the people beforehand, what to expect next year. Now you do it all in one go and people are feeling shocked," he admitted.
To this, his fellow panelist Rafizi Ramli retorted that if the government had told beforehand about the possible hikes, they would have lost the general elections.
