Two Rela (Malaysian paramilitary civil volunteer corps) members were sentenced to six months’ imprisonment by the magistrate’s court in Kuching today for criminal trespass and attempted robbery at Deputy Home Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar’s residence.

Aloi Ali, 42, and Nurul Azmie Tahir, 30, pleaded guilty before magistrate Maris Agan to committing the offence at 3.15am on Dec 24, 2013.

According to the facts of the case, the duo were on guard duty at the residence when they attempted to prise open one of the windows.

Their action triggered the house alarm system, causing them to flee the scene.

They were were arrested last Saturday and remanded before being formally charged today.
