PAS today joined PKR in ticking off DAP over its proposal to amend the Selangor Non-Islamic Religions (Control of Propagation Among Muslims) Enactment 1988 without first obtaining joint cosensus in Pakatan Rakyat.

PAS information chief Mahfuz Omar concurred with PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim that the three DAP state assemblypersons, Yeo Bee Yin (Damansara Utama), R Rajiv (Bukit Gasing) and Lau Weng San (Kampung Tunku), had acted "hastily" in proposing the amendment.

"I agree with Anwar (left) who described the actions of the three DAP leaders were rather hasty just as the raid by Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) was hasty," he said in a press conference this morning.

The three leaders had proposed the law be amended following Jais' raid on the Bible Society of Malaysia (BSM) where it confiscated over 300 copies of the Malay and Iban Bible which use the word 'Allah'.

They did not specifically state the amendments they wanted to see in the enactment, but had indicated that they do not want Jais to overstep its powers into the affairs of other religions.

The enactment bans non-Muslims from using the word 'Allah'.

However, PAS central committee member Dzulkefly Ahmad who was also at the press conference said the matter will be resolved diplomatically and that there was no need to chastise DAP.

"They have a right to air their views, but a Pakatan Rakyat view must be formulated through consensus. There is no need to attack DAP.

"We will discuss it within Pakatan Rakyat," he added.
