The cabinet has been urged to endorse the 10-point solution put forth by its predecessor in 2011 to resolve the issue surrounding the Bahasa Malaysia Bible.
            
DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang said that by doing so, the government and its leaders would be able to make their stand clear on the issue which has cropped up again following the seizure of copies of the Bible by the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) last week.

In a statement today, he said that this is important following the endorsement by Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and Selangor Umno liaison chief Noh Omar of the protest against the use of the word 'Allah' by Christians on Sunday.

"As there is no dispute that the (move by) Jais... is a clear transgression of the 10-point solution... Muhyiddin and Noh (who was a cabinet minister in 2011) must now declare whether they still support the 10-point solution or whether they want to dissociate themselves from the accord.

"Let the post-GE13 cabinet declare that it fully endorses unconditionally and unequivocally the 10-point solution adopted by the prime minister and the cabinet in April 2011," he said.

Lim (right) stressed that the endorsement is important as one of the points in the solution is for civil servants who do not adhere to the 10-point solution to be disciplined for any transgressions.

The solution, put together before the 2011 Sarawak election, states that the Bible in Bahasa Malaysia and indigenous Sabah and Sarawak languages - which uses the word 'Allah' - can be imported or printed locally.

However, such Bible copies used and printed in the peninsula should have the words ‘Christian publication’ and the cross sign on its cover.

More than 300 copies of the Bahasa Malaysia and Iban Bible had been seized in a raid of the Bible Society Malaysia (BSM) in Damansara on Jan 2.

Two BSM officials were arrested and released on bail. They are investigated under the Selangor Non-Islamic Religion (Control of Propagation Among Muslims) Enactment 1988.
