Heaping condemnation on Perak mufti Harussani Zakaria for acting out of line, PAS' religious leaders have called on all parties to overturn his "bughah" declaration on Turun protesters.

The PAS Ulama Council said they were disappointed that Islamic laws were being "misappropriated in a notably misguided measure."

The word "bughah" refers to armed rebellion against Islamic rule, the council said, and had no ties to what happened on Dec 31 at Dataran Merdeka.

Prior to the assembly, the police had denounced Turun organisers as attempting to overthrow the government.

But even as over 10,000 surge to Dataran Merdeka to vocalise their anger over costs of living, they disbanded peacefully after midnight and welcomed the New Year together.

"It's so ignorant for a mufti to categorise them as rebels. It's more unfortunate and dangerous when their blood has been declared as "halal."

"This is a statement that's very dangerous and can bring about turmoil to the country and loss of harmony among the people," said Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali at-Takiri, the information chief of PAS Ulama Council.

He warned that if left unchecked, it was such "fatwa" (Islamic ruling) that can cause blood-spill amongst the people.

"Did the participants of the Turun assembly come with weapons to overthrow the ruler?

"Furthermore, traitors according to the federal constitution refer to those who launch war against the Yang diPertuan Agong as head of Malaysia.

"The demonstrators only came empty handed and carried signboards stating their dissatisfaction towards the administrators of this country who brought about the cost of living hikes."

Similar brickbats were also thrown at Harussani by PAS Kelantan Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari and others for his ignorance.
