Two wild elephants have struck fear in the villages of Kampung Kaki Bukit near Baling over the past week, damaging their crops and even entering their houses.  

The animals have damaged the villagers’ padi and banana crops, said Kampung Kaki Bukit Village Development and Security Committee chairperson Ahmad Tajuddin Umat, 40.

He said the elephants usually roamed at night, and the villagers took turns to keep a vigil.

Ahmad Tajuddin said they wanted the Department of Wildlife and National Parks to act quickly to relocate the elephants or all their crops would be destroyed.

A villager, Fakrulrazi Ahmad, 53, said the elephants had damaged more than a hectare of their padi in a week.

Another villager, Mat Daud Samah, 70, said his family was worried that the elephants might enter their house again as the dwelling was close to the jungle.
