The police have apologised for uploading a picture of an injured man that it assumed was a police officer on duty during the anti-price hike rally at Dataran Merdeka last night.

The force’s official Facebook page yesterday uploaded a picture of a man with a head injury who was bleeding profusely, but the picture was denounced by many netizens who pointed out that it was inconsistent with the police’s own statement that the three officers injured on duty yesterday were only injured on their arms.

“We apologise for our carelessness in uploading a picture assumed to be a police officer who got injured while on duty on New Year’s Eve,” it said in a short statement today.

“PDRM has no intentions of making the situation any worse,” it added.

It went on to say that police officers were “normal humans” who are “prone to mistakes”.

“We can’t run away from making mistakes but we will always improve our weaknesses,” it said.

The source of the picture remains unverified but it is believed that picture was circulated within Facebook after an individual claimed that the injured man was a General Operations Force member.
