Penang MCA has urged state chief minister Lim Guan Eng to "acknowledge" several price hike measures implemented by the Pakatan Rakyat administration and urged the latter not to stir up "populist sentiments".

Penang MCA has urged state chief minister Lim Guan Eng to "acknowledge" several price hike measures implemented by the Pakatan Rakyat administration and urged the latter not to stir up "populist sentiments".
"In the Pakatan-helmed state of Selangor, the Subang Jaya Municipal Council caused commercial licence fees to soar in excess of 400%," said Penang MCA Youth chief Lee Beng Seng Lee in a statement today.
"The Penang state government also increased the land conversion fee levied on developers while imposing a room levy on all hotels, pumped up parking fees. The Penang Island Municipal Council also recently proposed to increase the commercial building permit fees," he added.
Lee also pointed out to that the salaries of Selangor state lawmakers had been revised upwards significantly.
"We recognise that BN is not perfect and that BN must be improved. Indeed, there are existing problems. Over the years, Pakatan including DAP has blamed BN for the rising cost of living.
"However, now that Pakatan rules several states and are thus involved in policy making and policy implementation, on the topic of inflation, do Pakatan state administrations dare to claim they should have no responsibility?" he asked.
He said that due to recent developments, the chief minister "fears" that people will doubt his frugality, and thus criticises BN.
"Perhaps Guan Eng fears that people will begin to doubt his image of frugality, view his administration as similarly wasteful and hence he needs to repeatedly criticise BN," Lee said.
