Tenaga Nasional Bhd is to spend RM1 million from its zakat funds nest year to repair 20 houses of the poor throughout the country.
Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) will be spending RM1 million in zakat to repair 20 houses of the poor throughout the country next year.
Kelantan state TNB (Distribution Division) general manager Md Yuslan Md Yusof said the list of potential recipients under the programme would be identified upon its implementation.
He said TNB has always been concerned with the poor and as such the company had set aside a zakat fund to help the needy.
"The house repair programme for the poor has also been implemented in Kelantan this year to benefit four poor house owners who are now enjoying more comfortable homes," Md Yuslan said at a presentation of contributions for schooling at SMK Tengku Bendahara Jerek, Bertam, in Gua Musang, Kelantan, today.
The programme was officiated by Nenggiri state assemblyperson Mat Yusoff Ab Ghani.
A total of 200 students from poor families, attending nine schools in the Nenggiri state constituency, received school uniforms and stationery under the programme.
Md Yuslan said TNB spent RM300,000 from its zakat fund to assist 1,300 needy students who will be attending school in January.
"It is also aimed at easing the burden of poor families when schools reopen next week," he said.
