With reference to the proposed one-way loop that MPPJ has planned for Petaling Jaya, the reality is there is no traffic jam per se, within PJ traffic.

The hold-ups are all due entirely to inter-city traffic due to traffic outside of PJ's boundary:

The Jln Gasing-Templer jam is due to backlog from Jln Kelang Lama.

The Jln University-Jln Gasing slow-moving traffic is the result of Federal Highway traffic.

Jln Semangat through to Jln Barat is stuck in the evenings because of the Federal Highway, and the damned idiots who stop in the yellow box.

Jln Datuk Abu Bakar down to the Sprint Highway is due to the signalised junction at the Sprint Highway end because the flyover built with public funds was given away to a private toll profiteer.

The LDP essentially carries traffic which bypasses PJ with choke points at the Federal Highway interchange and Taman Tun Dr Ismail-Mutiara Damansara areas on the Sprint Highway.

Okay, there are two hotspots within PJ - namely the ex-Rothman's roundabout (Jln University to SS2) and Sprint Highway (Section 16 to Bandar Utama). But these are not impacted by the proposed one-way loop.

Looking at the congestion within PJ from another angle, we see that the problem is only a "momentary" issue, that is it occurs within a two-hour window in the evening after-office-hour peak period.

All this in a city without an intra-city public transportation system.

Is there anywhere in the world where there is no congestion during similar hours? Hey, even traffic in MRT-dependent Singapore hits standstills in the evenings despite the relatively lower volume of traffic and much better road systems.

Now the smart aleck mayor apparently wants to provide for doubling the traffic volume capacity, at least within the 6km loop. But alas, your doubled capacity is not traffic going around in circles within the loop, my dear madam! Traffic within the loop is primarily through traffic. They originate from other places go on to other places.

Are we really in a need to encourage the extra volume of traffic, like taking some bite away from the LDP?

Madam, every honest traffic engineer will tell you that a proper traffic management system cannot be designed without a traffic impact assessment covering at least three to five km away. How much public funds have you blown away with a study which is contained within the loop (which reportedly has some numbers which cannot be explained or justified) leading to this hush-hush (as in total silence on the details of the plan on the eve of implementation) gargantuan project?

Seriously, have you ever thought about the more real need to address the choke points (which sadly are mostly out of your jurisdiction)? Like the Federal Highway-Seremban Highway interchange, the Motorola Interchange-Sunway toll stretch, etc?

Do you realise that if there is no hold up along the Federal Highway and Jln Kelang Lama, 75 percent (my wild guess only but I believe this is a conservative estimate) of traffic that is currently victim of the two-hour congestion window will enjoy free-flowing traffic with nothing more than normal brief waits at signalised junctions and roundabouts?

Madam Mayor, you do not need a reminder that you are custodian of pubic funds. This one-way loop is going to be canvas for a big whitewash for squandering multi millions out of the public coffers. Enough has been wasted on the sham consultation. Let's forget about that wastage and pull the handbrakes on the leakages NOW.

PJ ratepayers are demanding that idea of the one-way loop be scrapped immediately.
