PGB recipient laid to rest with full military honours

The Bidayuh community’s sole Panglima Gagah Berani (PGB) medal recipient Cpl (Rtd) Paul Nyopis Noyeat who passed away yesterday was laid to rest in full military honours at Kampung Rumih St Mathias Church cemetery in Bau, about 40km from Kuching, today.

About 400 people, including Third Brigade Infantry Commander, Brig-Gen Mohd Nazir Mami, Malaysian Ex-Service Association Sarawak chairperson Spencer Birai, local leaders and other army officials were among those present at the funeral service conducted by Pastor Michael Jinam Motai.
Mohd Nazir later handed the Malaysian flag which draped the casket bearing the remains of Nyopis, to his widow Kimen Lambek.
Nyopis, 71, died at the Bau hospital at 9.52am yesterday, two months after suffering from a stroke.
He earned one of the country’s gallantry award after battling with 15 communists in Bau, during the insurgency period in Sarawak, back in 1972.
